On the trek from Ancascocha to Machu Picchu, the trail crosses very remote Andean communities, where the locals try to continue living happily moving their llamas and alpacas as they have done until now. Ancascocha Trek is very strenuous and challenging due to the increase in altitude, the 7 steep summits and the length of the trek: 56 km / 34.8 miles and climbs to 4,959 m / 16,270 ft. But to be rewarded with incredible views doesn’t come without effort, we recommend that everyone who joins us have a good level of fitness. Be prepared for all kinds of weather changes, since in the Andes it can rain, snow or hail at any time. That is why we recommend wearing good trekking gear, such as walking shoes, jackets, and pants.
