The Salcantay Trekking is an alternative to the Inca Trail original and considered by most to be the best alternative route (and maybe even better!). This magnificent trail is perfect for adventurers who wish to become personally integrated in changing ecosystems from one day to the next. This is a very quiet and beautiful walk for normal walkers because it does not need a super physical condition but if you need to acclimatize a few days before, in which you will enjoy the beauty of the place such as the mountains, Humantay lake that is 4200 meters high and Then on day 2 you will arrive at Salkantay, which is 4620 meters high, a 100% recommended trek.

TOUR DAY 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – HUMANTAY LAKE – SKY LODGE SALKANTAY CAMP BASE OKIDOKI – SALKANTAY TREKKING

The first day we pick you up from your hostel (Cusco elevation 3400 meters) between 4:30 am to 5:00 am and then go by a bus to the village of Mollepata elevation 2900mt (distance 2 hours) where we will have 1 breakfast included and then we will continue for 1 more hour by bus to the beginning of the soraypampa trek that has an elevation of 3900meters

Then we have a walk of 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the Humantay lagoon where we will enjoy the landscape and then we will go down to the sky lodge salkantay base camp of Okidoki elevation 4050mt distance 1 hour and 30 minutes where we will have lunch and then we will enjoy the panoramic view towards the Salkantay and the other mountains after our dinner accommodation cabins of Okidoki.

TOUR DAY 2: OKIDOKI CAMP BASE – SALKANTAY PASS – OKIDOKI CAMP – SORAYPAMPA – MOLLEPATA – CUSCO

The second day begins breakfast very early at 5:30 a.m. then we start walking towards the snow-capped mountain of Salkantay elevation 4620mt distance 3 hours approximately where we will enjoy the highest part of this trek and we will have a ceremony of our guide as thanks and respect to the mountain for being part of our history and religion we will make the descent to our base camp lasting approximately 3 hours or so to have a lunch and then walk for approximately 1 hour to Soraypampa and take the return transport to Cusco distance 3 hours Arrival time 6:00 pm or earlier.

What is its name in Quechua for the Salkantay?

Its name from Salkantay in Quechua means “wild mountain”. The slopes of this snow-capped mountain are known for their technical difficulties, which every year attract climbers from all over the world. However, around it, there is also a network of trails for adventure trekking through the mountains and the Salkantay valley. The best-known four-day Salkantay trek can be started in Limatambo, Mollepata, or in Soraypampa. Two imposing peaks, the Humantay lagoon and the snow-capped Salkantay, dominate the landscape.

This tourist destination also offers the possibility of getting to know the native natural fauna —from vizcachas and alpacas to condors. It is an alternate route to get to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (Machu piccho).
