For the inhabitants of the Salkantay Andes, reverence to the apus, the sacred mountains of the Salkantay, converted into local protectors, did not go unnoticed over time, thus, mountains like the Salkantay, among others that surround it, assume a role important in the Andean worldview.
For example, the snow-capped Waqay Willke (5720 masl), within the traditional symbology of Andean dual thought, is considered the complement of the Salkantay, which is one of the most powerful and active deities of the place,
is also appreciated by the inhabitants, the father of all the mountains in the region and even today is the object of great veneration, which is why Machupicchu and Choquechurco maintain an intimate visual contact with the Salkantay and other snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba chain towards the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

The Salkantay Trek is considered moderate to challenging in difficulty. It includes varied terrain and high altitudes. Therefore, good physical condition and prior acclimatization are required.
Prior technical hiking experience isn’t strictly necessary; however, it’s crucial to be in good physical shape and mentally prepared for long hikes at high altitudes.
The best time is during the dry season, from May to October. This way, you’ll enjoy clear skies and less rain. The rainy season runs from November to April.
The highest point is the Salkantay Pass, at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet) above sea level. Consequently, acclimatization is crucial.
To acclimatize, arrive in Cusco at least 2-3 days before the trek. Initially, rest, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol and heavy meals. Additionally, you can take gentle walks around the city.
In our private service, you’ll enjoy luxury campsites with spacious tents, comfortable sleeping pads, and high-quality sleeping bags. Furthermore, in Aguas Calientes, we stay in 3-star hotels or higher.
All meals are included from breakfast on Day 1 to lunch on Day 4. In fact, our chefs prepare nutritious and delicious dishes, adapting to special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free) if requested in advance.
You should bring a good sleeping bag (comfort temperature -10°C), waterproof trekking boots, layered warm clothing, trekking poles, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a daypack. First and foremost, please consult our complete packing list.
Yes, you can rent sleeping bags, trekking poles, and even backpacks in Cusco. Of course, we can help you arrange this if needed.
Our service is completely private, meaning the trek is exclusively for your group (family, friends) and does not join other travelers. That is to say, the experience is fully adapted to your needs.
Yes, in the private service, support horses are included to carry camping and cooking equipment. Moreover, an emergency horse is also available for travelers in case they need extra support.
Our guides are trained in first aid and altitude sickness management. In case of discomfort, they carry oxygen and are prepared to provide assistance or evacuation if necessary.
Yes, the official Machu Picchu entrance ticket is included in your tour. However, it’s important to note that tickets for HuaynaPicchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain are not included due to their limited availability and additional cost. If you wish to climb one of these mountains, tickets must be booked 3 to 4 months in advance, as they sell out very quickly.
After your visit to Machu Piccho, you’ll take a bus to Aguas Calientes, subsequently, a scenic train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy, and finally, private transportation will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
No special permit is required like for the Inca Trail. However, Machu Picchu entrance tickets are needed, which we manage for you.
Yes, it’s safe with proper preparation and a reliable operator. Indeed, your safety is our priority; our guides are experienced, and the equipment is well-maintained.
Absolutely. One of the great advantages of the private service is its flexibility. Thus, we can adjust the pace of the hike and certain activities according to your preferences.
Our cancellation policy varies depending on the advance notice given. Generally, a retention fee is applied if cancellation occurs close to the departure date. If you do not notify the agency before purchasing your tickets to Machu Piccho, no refund will be issued. Please check the specific terms and conditions when booking okidoki travel peru.
Yes, you should bring your own reusable water bottle. Fortunately, we provide boiled and filtered water at campsites for refills, helping to reduce plastic waste.
Tips are voluntary and given as a thank you at the end of the trek. Therefore, we suggest consulting our tipping guide, as it’s an important way to acknowledge the hard work of the team.
