**Important points:

CONDITIONS FOR MAKING A RESERVATION AND CANCELLATIONS

to make your reservation you need the exact date of your classic salkantay trek departure because there are no changes or cancellations

RESERVATION MONEY DEPOSIT

To confirm your reservation and your participation in the trekking, you need to make a deposit. This deposit is to reserve all your trek services and, most importantly, the purchase of the Machupicchu ticket (the Machupicchu ticket is personal, it cannot be canceled or change date, or transfer to another person )

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations and date changes are not accepted, you simply lose your deposit, there is no refund.

your deposit is not for our pocket ( It is to buy the Machupicchu tickets and these tickets cannot be cancelled.) And it is for the organization of a good trek in okidoki and to have this good organization you have to make advance reservations of all the services that you are going to have during the 4 or 5 days of your trekking and these reservations are made with deposits so as not to have inconveniences or last minute cancellations from our suppliers and if we cancel these reservations we lose our deposits because this is not a game and by making a reservation with our service providers for the treks we are blocking spaces that they can simply give to other tour operators who also need it.

WHAT REQUIREMENTS DO YOU NEED TO OPTAIN THE STUDENT DISCOUNT?

THE ISIC CARD IS NOT VALID BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT FOUND FAKE COPIES… AND IT IS ALSO NOT VALID, CERTIFICATIONS, DOCUMENTS, NOTE FROM UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, INTERNSHIPS, ETC.

If you are a student, the discount is 20 dollars but you must have a card from your university with the current date (2025 or 2026) not 3 or 4 years later (not 2027 or 2028). Yourimage. The name of your university.
We need the copy of your original passport and your student card to show it to the government and he will say if it is valid or not because the discount is for the entrance of the Machupicchu and not for our trekking.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

you have to take your original plastic (PVC) student card, not cardboard or paper for your classic salkantay trekking because if you don’t have it your ticket will not be valid and you will have to buy another ticket it is a problem because if there are no spaces you will not visit Machupicchu ( you must be 25 years old or younger)… If you do not have this original card or this information on your student card that the government requires, I recommend you buy a normal adult ticket to avoid problems because we will not be responsible for this…

If you have this information and the requirements as a student, send them immediately (it is not valid if you send them after confirming your reservation) to present them to the government and the government approves them whether you are a student or not…

FAQs - Salkantay Trek + Humantay Lake 2 Days

Essential FAQs: Salkantay Trek + Humantay Lake – Trekking

Exploring the Andes requires preparation. Below, we provide detailed answers to the most common traveler questions about this exclusive 2-day expedition.

1. Why choose the 2-day Salkantay & Humantay Trek instead of a 1-day tour?

The primary reason is acclimatization and comfort. A 1-day tour is extremely taxing, involving 6+ hours of driving and high-altitude hiking in a single day. On the contrary, our 2-day service allows you to sleep at our Sky Lodge Salkantay Base Camp (Okidoki), giving your body time to adjust to the 4,000-meter elevation. Furthermore, you get to see the sunrise and sunset over the glaciers, an experience 1-day travelers completely miss.

2. How difficult is the Salkantay Pass on the second day?

The ascent to the Salkantay Pass (4,620 m) is considered challenging but rewarding. It is a 3-hour uphill trek. However, because you have already spent a night at high altitude at our base camp, your lungs and muscles will be better prepared than if you started from Cusco that same morning. Additionally, our guides set a “pole-pole” (slow and steady) pace to ensure everyone reaches the summit safely.

3. What are the sleeping arrangements at the Sky Lodge Salkantay Base Camp?

Unlike traditional trekking companies that use cold tents, we provide exclusive wooden cabins at our Okidoki Base Camp. Notably, these cabins offer better insulation against the Andean cold and feature panoramic windows to enjoy the view of the Salkantay peak from your bed. In short, you get the adventure of the trek with the comfort of a protected shelter.

4. Is the entrance fee to Humantay Lake included in the price?

Typically, the entrance fee to the Mollepata community and Humantay Lake (approx. 20 Soles) is not included in the initial tour price to allow for flexibility in local regulations. Therefore, we recommend carrying small denominations of Peruvian Soles. Nevertheless, we handle all the logistics and paperwork so you don’t have to wait in long lines at the control points.

5. What kind of food is provided during the 2-day trek?

Nutrition is vital at high altitudes. For this reason, our private chefs prepare high-energy meals using local ingredients.

  • Breakfast: Hot coffee, coca tea, pancakes, and Andean cereals.

  • Lunch & Dinner: Fresh soups, quinoa dishes, lomo saltado, and vegetable stir-fries. Moreover, we can accommodate vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free diets upon request at no extra cost.

6. Do I need to carry my own heavy backpack during the hike?

Fortunately, no. In our Salkantay Trek + Humantay Lake 2 days service, we utilize pack horses or mules to carry the heavy equipment and your main luggage. You only need a small daypack for your water, camera, sunscreen, and rain jacket. Consequently, you can focus on the scenery and your breathing rather than struggling with a heavy load.

7. How does the Salkantay ceremony work?

On the second day, upon reaching the Salkantay Pass, your guide will lead a traditional ceremony. This ritual is a gesture of respect to the “Apus” (mountain spirits). You will use three coca leaves (the K’intu) to ask for protection and thank the mountain for a safe passage. Undoubtedly, this is the most spiritual and memorable moment for many of our hikers.

8. What is the best month for this 2-day expedition?

The peak season is the Andean dry season, from May to October. During these months, the sky is usually crystal clear, offering perfect views of the Humantay Lake’s turquoise water. However, the 2-day trek is available year-round. Even in the rainy season, the landscape is incredibly green and lush, though you should be prepared for afternoon showers.

9. What happens if I suffer from altitude sickness (Soroche)?

Your safety is our priority. Our guides are equipped with medical oxygen and pulse oximeters to monitor your saturation levels. Because we stay at our base camp, if you feel unwell, we have a stable location for you to rest. Furthermore, our staff is trained in mountain first aid to provide immediate assistance or coordinate a safe descent if necessary.

10. Can I rent trekking poles and gear from you?

Yes, absolutely. We highly recommend using trekking poles to protect your knees during the descent from the Salkantay Pass. Additionally, if you do not have a high-quality sleeping bag or professional rain gear, you can rent them from our office in Cusco before departure. By doing so, you ensure you have professional-grade equipment without having to fly with it.

11. Is there a minimum age for the 2-day trek?

We recommend a minimum age of 10 to 12 years old, depending on the child’s physical activity level. Since this is a private or specialized service, we can adjust the pace for families. However, for younger children, we suggest a private consultation to ensure they are properly acclimatized to the 4,600-meter altitude.

12. How do I book and what is the cancellation policy?

To secure your spot at our Sky Lodge, we recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance. Finally, once you confirm your dates and provide a deposit, we finalize all logistics, including transport, guides, and meals. Our cancellation policies are flexible, but always check the specific terms regarding community fees and lodge reservations.
