6.- ¿What are the characteristics of the original Inka trail and campsites?

The original Inka Trail is an ancient stone route built by the Incas over 500 years ago, in order to connect the various villages of the vast Inca Empire of Tawantinsuyu.

This section of the trail, which extends from kilometer 82 to MachuPicchu, is a protected Inka archaeological site and is open to tourism. However, it is important to note that the original Inka Trail is located in the heart of the Andes in Peru, making it inaccessible by motorized means of transport.

Along the original route, there is no electricity or drinking water infrastructure, and the toilets available at the campsites are not the most comfortable.

In fact, most hikers opt for nature as their most practical option. In addition, due to its remote location, there is no cellular signal coverage along the entire Inka trail.

It is essential to understand that while agencies can offer guidance and support during the excursion, the management of the sanitary services and infrastructure of the original route is not their responsibility. Therefore, travelers must be prepared for the rustic conditions of the place, which, in turn, is part of the authentic and original experience of the Inka Trail.
