Travel to the Archaeological Complex of Chinchero – Cusco:
Chinchero is recognized today for its textile tradition of pre-Hispanic origin. Travel to Ollantaytambo – Cusco:
The archaeological site of Ollantaytambo is today best known for the Temple of the Six Monoliths. Dedicated to the Sun, this temple is situated high above the town of Ollantaytambo, on a southern extension of Cerro Bandolista. Carved from reddish rhyolite, the six monoliths are smooth and polished; and reflect the strong light of the Urubamba Valley.
They shine like a beacon and are visible from all over the valley. As a monument to the cult of the Inka state, this temple reveals the ability of religious ideology to translate into monumental construction – Cusco. Its construction begins in the middle of the fifteenth century, but the Inkas did not complete it. The building exists as an unfinished thought, an opportunity to see and contemplate the intelligence of its builders. Although the temple of the six monoliths is impressive, this building is only part of the infrastructure of the Inka site – Peru Operator.
This included platform systems and agricultural warehouses, canals and ditches, walls and guard rooms, monumental houses, temples and sacred precincts – Peru. The ideology that organized the site plan was equally complicated.
The Inkas had as sacred beings the stars of the sky and meteorological phenomena, to whom they had a higher esteem, as much as the earth. Also, the Inka state cult recognized human ancestors – mythical and historical leaders of the Inka dynasty; these sacred beings also shaped the monumental site of Ollantaytambo (Cult of the Sun/Cult of the Living Ruler: Ollantaytambo and its lord, Inka Pachakuti Yupanki) Cusco Operator.
Travel to Salineras de Maras – Moray – Cusco:
The Salineras de Maras are located 50 km northeast of the city of Cusco, at an altitude of 3,200 meters above sea level. Geographically, they are located in the lower part of the sub-basin and left bank of the Salineras stream, towards its mouth in the Vilcanota river, in the jurisdiction of the peasant communities of Maras and Pichingoto, between the ravines of the Qaqahuiñay, Cruz Mocco, Llully Mocco and Chupayoq. It has three access routes: from the town of San Francisco de Maras, along the bridle path or runañan to the salt mines, the paved road from the town of San Francisco de Maras, and crossing the Inca bridge of Tarabamba through the community of Pichingoto.
The salt mines themselves are made up of a set of approximately 4,500 salt pools located in the form of stepped terraces on the middle slope of the Qaqawiñay hill with slopes of 20 degrees incline to the bottom of the ravine on the left bank of the Salineras stream, with dimensions that fluctuate around 5 linear meters, occupying a total area of approximately 1.5 to 2 hectares- Cusco Operator.
